Bangkok – Luxe Stay: Cabochon Hotel

As you walk into the compound of the Cabochon Hotel, you might get the feeling that you’ve gone back in time. The old, French, colonial-style mansion exudes a true oriental vibe with a nod to the Roaring Twenties. Along with a lingering scent in the hallway, polished marble flooring and warm lighting sets the right mood.

You’ll find yourself slowly being charmed by the surroundings. Tortoise shells, leather sofas, vintage frames and brass chandeliers don the hallways. Shaubai, the host, leads you to the Cabochon’s library hidden at the back. Tea is served to you in a porcelain teapot as you wait for your room and unwind for a second.

The boutique hotel has a total of 4 rooms and 4 suites, featuring wood parquet flooring, old light fixtures and comfy bed linens. They are all clean and romantic, utterly peaceful in the evening. Bathroom amenities are from our favourite Thai luxury spa brand, Panpuri. Expect dreamy scent of Jasmine flowers and rice extract in your bathroom.

Elegant doors to open up to your private balcony – perfect for those balmy Bangkok nights.

In the mornings, you can enjoy bread and traditional Thai porridge (served with nuts, salted egg) downstairs, together with a special order from their breakfast menu. These include their usual breakfast staples like noodles with fishballs or meat, or more continental choices like french toast or pancakes.

Sit alfresco on their porch underneath the shade, and enjoy a morning in the tropics.

After breakfast, take a stroll out to the luxury malls like EmQuartier and Emporium if you’re keen on a bout of shopping. Cabochon is located in the Phrom Phong neighbourhood, where many foreigners and Japanese expats live in. It is a skytrain stop away from Thong Lo and Ekkamai district where there are countless hip cafes, restaurants and bars. Read our Bangkok Travel Diary for more recommendations!
